Request account deletion

Delete from the ReaderTree mobile app

1. Open the ReaderTree app and sign in.
2. Tap Settings from the main menu.
3. Scroll to the Account section and tap Delete Account.
4. On the confirmation screen, type DELETE MY ACCOUNT exactly as shown and confirm.

Your request is recorded immediately. Your account is then deactivated and queued for permanent deletion (see What gets deleted below).

Delete from the web app

1. Sign in at readertree.app/sign-in.
2. Open Settings from the account menu.
3. Under Privacy & data, choose Delete account and confirm with the phrase shown.

Can't sign in? Email us

If you can no longer access your account, email [email protected] from the address used to register. Include any usernames or display names you used so we can locate the right account. We'll verify the request and confirm by email before deleting anything.

What gets deleted

Within 30 days of your confirmed request, we permanently remove:

• Your profile, username, display name, avatar, and biography
• Your shelves and the books you added to them
• Your reviews, ratings, reading notes, and reading goals
• Your book clubs, lists, and challenges that you own
• Your messages, comments, and follow / follower relationships
• Your push-notification tokens and notification preferences
• AI assistant conversations and recommendation history tied to your account
• Stored payment-method references (the underlying card is held by Stripe)
• Files you uploaded (cover scans, photos) from object storage

What we keep, and for how long

A small amount of data is retained where the law or another user's rights require it:

• Transaction records (order ID, amount, date, tax jurisdiction) for purchases made on the marketplace or through Connect payouts — retained for 7 years for tax, accounting, and chargeback obligations. These records are de-identified from your profile.
• Abuse and safety logs (e.g. reports filed against the account, moderation actions) — retained for up to 2 years so that repeat-offender bans remain enforceable.
• Aggregated analytics (anonymous counts of page views, reads, etc.) that no longer identify you — retained indefinitely.
• Backups — encrypted database backups are rotated on a 35-day cycle. Deletion in backups is completed by the end of that cycle.

Content you contributed to shared spaces (e.g. a public book-club thread, a review on a book) is anonymised rather than deleted, so that other members' replies remain coherent. The author is replaced with “deleted user” and no link back to you is kept.

Changing your mind

You can cancel a pending deletion request at any time during the 30-day window by signing back in and choosing Cancel deletion in Settings, or by emailing [email protected]. After the 30-day window closes, deletion is final and your data cannot be recovered.

Deleting only some of your data

You don't have to delete your whole account. From within the app you can remove individual books from your shelves, delete your own reviews and comments, and clear your reading history.
