Request data deletion

This page is for users who want to delete some of their ReaderTree data without closing their account. If you want to remove your account entirely, see Request account deletion instead.

What you can delete yourself from the app

The following items can be removed directly from the ReaderTree mobile or web app without contacting support. Each action is immediate.

  • Books on your shelves. Open a shelf, tap a book, then choose Remove from shelf. This removes the book from every shelf you have it on.
  • Your reviews and ratings. Open the review from your profile and choose Delete. The review is removed from the book's public page and your profile.
  • Reading notes and highlights. Open a note and choose Delete.
  • Comments you posted in clubs, discussions, or on other users' reviews. Long-press a comment and choose Delete.
  • Lists and challenges you own. Open the list or challenge and choose Delete.
  • Profile fields. Settings → Profile lets you clear your bio, avatar, display name, and the favourite-books carousel at any time.
  • Reading goals. Settings → Goals lets you reset or remove an existing year's goal.
  • Push-notification tokens. Settings → Notifications → turn the channel off, and the token for this device is dropped on next sync.

Data we'll delete on request

For data we hold that isn't exposed in the app UI, email [email protected] from the address registered to your account. State which of the following categories you want removed:

  • AI assistant conversation history — the prompts you sent and the replies you received, plus any embeddings derived from your reading.
  • Recommendation history — the audit trail of suggestions we've made to you and the signals that produced them.
  • Search and browsing history within ReaderTree (book lookups, clubs you previewed, etc.).
  • Stored payment methods on file with us (the underlying card is held by Stripe and can also be removed there).
  • Files you've uploaded (cover scans, photos, audio clips) from object storage.
  • Direct messages you've sent or received.
  • Analytics events tied to your user ID. (Aggregated analytics that no longer identify you can't be reversed out of the rollups.)

We will confirm by email before deleting anything, complete the deletion within 30 days, and write back when it's done.

Data we have to keep

A small amount of data can't be deleted on request because the law or another user's rights require us to keep it:

  • Transaction records for marketplace orders and payouts — retained for 7 years for tax, accounting, and chargeback obligations.
  • Abuse and safety logs — retained for up to 2 years so repeat-offender bans remain enforceable.
  • Encrypted database backups — rotated on a 35-day cycle; your deletion lands in backups by the end of that cycle.
